WBJEE 2025 Result Delay: The announcement of results for the West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination (WBJEE) 2025 has been delayed due to administrative reasons, a senior official from the WBJEE Board told indianexpress.com on Monday.
The WBJEE is held for admission to undergraduate courses in Engineering, Technology, Pharmacy, and Architecture in various institutions across the state.
“We have been ready with the WBJEE results since June 5,” the official said. “We were prepared to publish it on that day, but the scenario changed.” The Board has communicated the matter to the Directorate of Technical Education and is currently awaiting a response.
Asked about the new timeline for the declaration of results, the official clarified that the Board is only the examination conducting body and does not have the authority to make a final decision in such matters. “We are not the decision-makers. We have to abide by the rules of the government,” the source said.
This year, the exam was conducted on April 27. Last year, WBJEE was conducted on April 28 and the results were declared on June 6.
Citing the West Bengal Joint Entrance Examinations Board Act, 2014, the official said, “It mentions that the state government shall have the power to resolve any examination-related disputes or issues and also have the power to issue directions to the Board, which the Board will have to comply with.” The official also mentioned that the examination had been conducted without any issues or paper leaks.
Another official with the WBJEEB said that they are awaiting the high court’s verdict in this regard.

When indianexpress.com spoke to an official from the Directorate of Technical Education, West Bengal, he merely said, “We are in the process.”
The issue
The uncertainty regarding WBJEE results and other examinations is due to a directive from the Calcutta High Court concerning reservations under the Other Backward Classes (OBC) quota. The high court has temporarily placed a hold on the West Bengal government’s notifications related to reservation norms for OBC-A and OBC-B categories.
Justices Tapabrata Chakraborty and Rajasekhar Mantha on June 17, 2025, ruled to suspend executive orders related to OBC reservations issued between May 8 and June 13 until July 31, 2025, along with any resulting actions. The issue arose after the state added 76 castes to its OBC list, which the high court questioned.
As per the WBJEEB Act, 2014, a separate merit list will be prepared for candidates belonging to the Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST), and OBC (A and B) categories following provisions of the West Bengal State Higher Educational Institutions (Reservation in Admission) Act, 2013, and the rules made thereunder.
