National Institution of Technology Warangal (NIT- W) has retained its NIRF ranking for 2023, but it still lags to cover up the decrease in rank it has received since 2020. The Institute is 2 ranks behind while for the overall category, it has declined by 8 positions. The Institute is unable to maintain a stable position in the rankings.
Established in 1959, it was the first engineering institution to be converted into a National Institution of Technology.
NIT-W additional could not make an appearance in other categories of NIRF ranking such as overall, innovation, architecture and research. On the other hand, it was not considered in the QS World University Ranking but received a rank in a range between 1001–1200 for Times Higher Education (THE) in 2024.

Under the engineering category, the Institute has maintained a stable position from the last two years. In 2020, the Institute was under top 20 and since then it has been lagging behind by two or three ranks. In the engineering category, it secured 72.58 score in teaching, learning, and resources (TLR), 50.86 score in research and professional practice (RPC), 74.41 score in graduation outcomes (GO), 57.19 score in outreach and inclusivity (OI), and 19.10 score in perception, all out of 100.
The college has 13 academic departments, a few advanced research centres in various disciplines of engineering, pure sciences and management. The institute offers 8 undergraduate programmes in engineering, 29 post-graduate programmes in engineering, sciences and management and research programmes in engineering, Sciences, Humanities, physical education and management.
